Tree of the family of the Rosáceas, apricots are nearly round with a depression at the top where the stem attached. They have a vertical indentation that starts at the stem and goes down one side. The skin is yellow-orange to pink-orange and feels soft and smooth. Apricots can be similar in appearance to peaches and nectarines, but those fruits usually have a reddish colouring to their skins.

The nectarine fruit is a variety of the peach tree. The botanical name of the nectarine is P. persica var. nucipersica while the botanical name of the peach is P. persica . Nectarines and peaches are similar in appearance and colour as they differ only by a single gene, the gene for skin texture. Peaches are fuzzy and dull, while nectarines are shiny and smooth. Nectarines can range in colour from red, pink, yellow or white.

Flat-Peach (Prunus

One nectarine and two peach selections were planted in Murcia in 2003. All selections were characterized with early flowering time, moderate vigour and small fruit size. The fruits were of pronounced and attractive skin blush. All selections ranked high in terms of fruit appearance. Among the selections, flat peach with white flesh exhibited the highest performance in terms of cropping, fruit size and aroma. The flat peach is the most unique of the peach varieties, that they are round in shape but narrow in depth (resembling a donut). The flat peaches are white fleshed although those yellow flesh varieties are on their way with low acid content, thereby giving it the soft, sweet and creamy taste and texture.
